As you may be aware, Richard Tombs, former Australian Wallaby, husband of Carissa Tombs, (nee Dalwood, former Australian netball Diamond, and MWNA life member), father of Latika, Talani and Ukiesha (members of Collaroy Plateau Netball Club & involved in Manly Warringah Netball Association Representative Pathway, with Latika also recruited to the New South Wales Institute of Sport for netball), recently injured his spinal cord whilst playing in a local soccer match for Curl Curl Youth club.
Recovery from an incomplete C4 spinal injury is a challenging journey involving rigorous rehabilitation on a daily basis. Undoubtedly the demands of this are extensive on many levels and at times confronting and deeply challenging. However, in true Tombs style they are all taking this on with remarkable determination. Although it is 7 weeks post injury, this is still considered to be a relatively early stage and a long term prognosis remains unclear at this point in time.
At the moment while longer term options for financial support are being pursued, MWNA would like to share with you all the availability of an account for donations to assist the family with the financial burden of medical expenses.
Bendigo Bank at Freshwater has kindly come on board in establishing an account for donations to be deposited into.
MWNA have kickstarted this fund-raising by voting at the September Council meeting to donate $5,000 immediately into this account.
Any sized amount is a tremendous help. Please be sure to spread the word about the availability of this account amongst friends and family as all contributions are very much appreciated and go to the Tombs family.

Carissa and the girls are very grateful for the support shown already by many in the community and updates on Richards’s progress will be posted via the MWNA web site for those who may not get a chance to view them on Facebook.
Enormous thanks and warm regards
